Shimano
Shimano: Japanese Expertise
It all began in 1921 with Shimano in Osaka, Japan. In a country where cycling culture wasn't particularly developed, the Japanese company specialised from the start in the world of bicycles, producing single-speed bikes as its first product. The philosophy of the Japanese brand focuses on simple yet fundamental principles of cycling: smooth operation and product durability.
Everything must work perfectly when you hop on your bike; gear shifts, transmission, everything should happen as easily and simply as possible. With these foundations, Shimano quickly gained success, and its products became popular worldwide, with subsidiaries established in Europe and the United States to meet the growing demand in a country where cycling is becoming increasingly popular.
Since its inception, Shimano has undergone a long and beautiful evolution, expanding its universe to encompass all components of the cycling world. Today, Shimano produces not only bike components but also products dedicated to cyclists, such as cycling clothing and cycling shoes. It is no surprise to see this beautiful and long family history endure for over 100 years.
Always on the lookout for new developments that will revolutionise cycling, the story of Shimano does not seem to be coming to an end. In 2021, Taizo Shimano became the sixth president of Shimano, extending the family history initiated by Shozaburo Shimano 100 years earlier. A long and beautiful family tradition following the philosophy and principles of the brand over the years.
Shimano: A Wide Range of Technical Products for All Your Activities
Whether you are an enthusiast of long Alpine climbs or technical single-tracks in the mountains, every cyclist finds their happiness among the product range of the brand. Shimano has established itself as a leading company in the global cycling market, with a core business focused on transmission and bike components, but also successful diversifications such as shoes and textiles.
The popularity and global recognition of Shimano products are largely due to the numerous innovations that Shimano has pioneered since its inception.
Among the most notable innovations credited to the brand is the famous DI2 (Digital Integrated Intelligence) transmission system, a small revolution launched in 2009. This electronic bike group completely disrupted the transmission market upon its launch with its electric transmission system allowing for smooth and quick gear shifts with minimal effort (almost).
Among the various products from the Shimano brand, cycling shoes for road or trail use are now the best-selling in the world. Pedalling comfortably over the miles with optimal power transmission are the technical features contributing to the success of these Japanese shoes.
