MSR
MSR: over 45 years of experience in outdoor sports
Larry Penberthy, an engineer and mountaineer from Seattle in the north-west of the United States, founded Mountain Safety Research in 1969 with a clear goal: to make outdoor practices such as mountaineering and climbing safer. Passionate about the great outdoors and vast spaces, he developed technical products from the early 1970s, addressing the challenges faced by mountaineers in the field. MSR began producing its first stoves, ice axes, and other tents during this time. Always aiming to meet the needs of athletes, the American brand has continuously innovated to become a reference in the outdoor sports sector today. With over 45 years of experience, MSR offers the opportunity to escape with complete and increasingly technical gear. The brand has notably become a reference in the tent market, as well as for stoves, cookware, and other outdoor sports accessories.
MSR Products: Technical Gear for Adventurers
MSR Tents: Best-Sellers
When you set off on an adventure, there are essential items to take with you. The MSR tents are among them. True technological marvels for excursions in plains, camping, or mountains, MSR tents are lightweight and easy to transport, wherever you go. Waterproof, they are designed with double roofs and technical materials such as Durashield coating or DWR coating, and benefit from a robust frame, making them ultra-resistant tents. Therefore, regardless of the weather and season, there is a tent suited to your needs. MSR produces 3-season and 4-season tents so that neither cold nor rain will be barriers to your outing plans. Whether for a solo adventure, with a partner, or in a group, you can be sure to find the right tent for your trip. For a hike between March and December, the MSR Hubba NX tent is a reliable choice. We can also recommend the MSR Elixir 2 V2 tent. Finally, if winter is your preferred season, then the MSR Remote and Access tents will be wise choices. A sleeping bag, your tent, and the adventure is yours.
MSR Stoves: Constant Innovations
MSR offers a wide range of stoves to accompany you on all your hikes, whether in Brittany or around the Tour du Mont-Blanc. The MSR stoves were initially designed to melt snow and provide a source of clean water for mountaineers. The brand has since evolved its products. The American brand's stoves have become increasingly lightweight, allowing them to be carried without taking up too much space in your hiking backpack. Essential for adventures in the great outdoors, whether at low altitude or on the highest peaks, an MSR stove will meet your needs. There are gas stoves, multi-fuel stoves, wood stoves, and petrol stoves. Depending on the climate or adventure, the models are more or less advantageous. For example, MSR gas stoves are lightweight and easy to transport, making them more suitable for short trips. In this regard, the MSR Pocket Rocket 2 stove stands out particularly.
However, if a high-altitude excursion in cold weather is on the agenda, a multi-fuel MSR stove will be particularly suitable, as it does not freeze in cold conditions. Additionally, if you are travelling abroad, it will be easier to find compatible fuel for your stove. This compatibility issue can arise with gas stoves, as the gas canisters available in France are not the same as those that can be purchased on the other side of the Atlantic, for example.
MSR Cookware
For every adventure, it is important to have a well-organised cookware at the bottom of your hiking backpack along with your stove. Designed from various materials, the MSR cookware features different characteristics so that you can find one that perfectly suits your adventure. Thus, MSR cookware made of titanium is particularly lightweight but does not conduct heat effectively. Aluminium cookware strikes a balance and distributes heat efficiently across the entire surface, all at a very interesting price-quality ratio. However, they are less resistant to wear. If you are looking for something robust, the MSR cookware made of stainless steel is for you. Durable, easy to clean, and quite efficient, they are, however, relatively heavy. This type of MSR cookware is particularly suited for long and not very strenuous hikes.
MSR Water Filters
For all adventurers seeking to be fully self-sufficient during their excursions, MSR water filters are extremely useful. Indeed, it can be very difficult to find drinking water in the middle of nature. Thus, MSR water filters allow you to stay constantly hydrated without fearing a lack of water. Depending on your excursion, you can choose between a lightweight water filter that takes up very little space in your backpack or a larger capacity filter, such as the Thru-Link InLine Microfilter, which allows you to drink anywhere!
MSR Shelters & Tarps
The MSR shelters and tarps are extremely useful for expeditions in the great outdoors. Depending on your destination, the weather can change very quickly. Therefore, it is crucial to equip yourself well to avoid being caught off guard by the onset of bad weather, which can quickly make your excursions unpleasant. MSR tarps are particularly useful for protecting against external elements such as wind and rain, while MSR shelters are perfect for sudden temperature changes. Indeed, compared to tarps, MSR shelters offer better protection against rain and wind, as well as against cold, if you set off on an adventure in winter or at altitude. Among the various emergency shelters designed by the American brand, the tarp Rendezvous 120 Wing V2 provides excellent protection without being cumbersome.
