The gas stove: an essential for cooking while camping or bivouacking
Camping has become very popular among holidaymakers eager to embark on new adventures, a little off the beaten track. Whether you are keen on new hiking trails or simply enjoy camping regularly with family or friends, simplicity is key to your adventure. The feeling of freedom, this quest for harmony with nature in all its simplicity: what better way to break away from your daily routine than to recharge and fully enjoy your outdoor holidays? Of course, breaking away from your daily life also means breaking away from the technology that surrounds us. You won’t be able to carry your cooking plates or oven during your hikes or treks. When camping, you need to adapt, but thanks to the development of quality items and utensils, cooking while camping has never been easier. With the development of high-end camping gear, quality camping dishes, and ultra-efficient gas stoves, you can fully enjoy a gourmet meal in a friendly atmosphere.
What is a gas stove?
A gas stove is a camping cooking utensil that allows you to heat or cook your food. It is commonly used in camping, hiking, or simply for a picnic during outdoor activities. The principle of operation is simple: a gas stove consists of a support and a burner connected to a gas cartridge. You will find on the market gas stoves with non-threaded valves and stoves with threaded valves (Jetboil stove, Optimus stove). The gas stove is, nowadays, the preferred system among campers. The gas stove operates using gas, which can be butane, propane, isobutane, or natural gas. However, be aware that butane freezes when temperatures are negative, so the gas stove will not work. Therefore, make sure to check the environment in which you will use your camping stove to avoid any inconvenience on the day. The gas stove is thus a compact, reliable, and lightweight system, ideal for transporting during your hikes and treks. It will be a valuable ally for warming your meals when you are far from civilization.
Choosing the right gas stove according to your needs: camping vs. hiking
You may guess that there are many gas stoves on the market. Which gas stove should you choose? It all depends on your needs and how you plan to use it. If you are a camping enthusiast, opt for a gas stove with multiple burners and a piezoelectric ignition system. It will generally be bulkier and heavier but better suited for preparing real gourmet meals. If you prefer hiking and bivouacking, choose a lightweight and compact stove with a single burner, which will be much easier to carry in your hiking bag.
